There are prior works like <em>Hanami(2017)<\/em> that photographed people enjoying cherry blossoms and <em>Crossing(2017)<\/em> that captured people crossing the street.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"justify\"><p>The station where the work was conducted is a place to which everyone belongs but nobody belongs. It is the utopos where someone passes through rather than resides really. The working title of this series was <em>Gare<\/em> because I planned to work at 4-5 railway stations at Paris. However, pondering upon characteristics of the station as utopos, I reconsidered the title of the series. Besides, <em>In Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes<\/em>, Robert Louis Stevenson wrote \u201cI travel not to go anywhere, but to go. The great affair is to move.\u201d I came to feel great sympathy toward it so titled <em>Arrival and Departure<\/em>, paying attention to \u2018The great affair\u2019.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"justify\"><p>While observing people, I felt movements for arrivals and departures seemed to be quite dynamic but in general they were for waiting. It was the static time something was being pursued. In other words, they were a kind of silent movements. It gave me an opportunity to rethink travels. Maybe travels are composed of repetitive arrivals and departures. Furthermore, it was an intriguing fact that people staying at the station were not necessarily travelers. Arrivals and departures are not movements only done at a station during one\u2019s journey.
