Objet O<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the exhibition title, ‘Objet O’ originated from \u2018objet a,\u2019 or objet petit-a, one of main concepts of Jacques Lacan. Here, ‘O’ is regarded as ordinaire, meaning common or ordinary, as original, meaning creative or original, and as ouvert, meaning open. Instead, being literally open to the possibility, it derives from the initial letter ‘O’. Then, ordinary objects were selected from my studio and a new story was intended to draw according to composition and arrangement.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Still-life Photography<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This work is still-life photography composed of two or three types of objects. Moreover, visual obsession is sometimes applied such as an incidental meeting between objects, partial selection, lining up according to similar types or in order of size. During development of the work, stories made by such photos are not fresh but show my life pattern or private memory. For that reason, I have had the title, ‘mon journal,’ or \u2018my diary\u2019 in mind. Among these works, about 13 were selected, except those regarded as subjective and speculative, or regarded as simple presentation of objects. I hope my works will show the sincerity and the sensibility derived even from the absence of expression. They are in process of finding the essence from features of reality that may look trivial.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

First Keyword: Selection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once I used to judge someone while looking around his library. Recently, however, it seems to easily guess his taste in view of his song lists or images on the personal homepage. Moreover, I seem to have read that someone\u2019s shopping cart shows his taste. With regard to something to occupy and select, it doesn\u2019t seem desirable to judge someone. Nevertheless, sometimes there is something for which we have affinity, in view of its similarity to me, and about which we feel concern as if to show our real intention, when being exposed. Or, does such affinity help us regard it in the same light as me? It seems so difficult.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

First of all, the most difficult thing is all behaviors of \u2018selection.\u2019 Even during my work, there were moments of selection. Whenever it came to me, I thought over the original intention while writing and established my own standards. While frequently watching audition programs, sometimes I observe carefully their standards and selections of judges.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Second Keyword: Memory<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is memory stored? It may be a stupid question like \u2018Where is the mind\u2019 I\u2019ve had. I am buried in my thoughts while sitting at my desk like a control tower in a small workroom.  My memory may be stored in objects. In view of burning or removing photos after separation, or exhibiting keepsakes of the deceased, maybe there is at least power to collect pieces of memory. I\u2019m just gazing into things.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The brain also needs outsourcing. According to Sakato Kenji\u2019s <Arts of Memo>, it is said that the human brain is like ‘RAM,’ rather than ‘hard drive,’ and ‘Record and forget information and use the brain creatively.’<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Well, how are memory and reminiscence different? One Naver user wrote that \u2018something on my head is memory, something on my mind is memory.’ However, in my opinion, it seems that \u2018memory is to occur and reminiscence is to remember.\u2019 Sometimes, it seems that the work is similar to the process of searching for suitable words and defining them more elaborately and minutely.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n
